NAU Student voices

In April of 2010 I attended the ACA conference held at GCC which highlighted the true beauty of the GCC/NAU connection. It was both an honor and a privilege to attend as an NAU Alumni and support the students who were approaching their culmination of their undergraduate experience with NAU.  It was an emotional day for me… I miss that community terribly and loved to see the growth, competence and confidence of the graduates.

The greatness of the day was solidified with the attendance of Dr. Michael Hyde as the keynote speaker for both the conference and the Honors Induction Ceremony for the NAU Students. After working so long in research and science he was stunned to see such a close and supportive community of colleagues and faculty between the NAU and GCC community. He gave pause to question… “Why aren’t more collegiate communities like this one?” What a great testament to the success of NAU!

I give great credit to the openness, care and support of Dr. Baker, Norma Peru-Ray and the GCC faculty, namely Dr. Reed and Dr. Joraanstad who stayed till the very end of the day to celebrate with each student. I also give my thanks to this 2+2 program and this NAU community. I wouldn’t be where I am today or have the hope for the possibilities of tomorrow without it.
